11-4/ Second Quarter Start

We started this second quarter by discussing first, diversifying our food sources for our sallies/frogs and making sure we can keep them alive. Student run colonies of cricket died out over the weekend. Students decided that water was their limiting factor. Students decided that it would be a good idea to investigate how to keep a breeding colony of crickets running.

Students were asked how often we should be massing our sallies/frogs. It was decided at least 1-2 times per week.

We continued our discussion about trends in animal evolution. Reading packets handed out last week were resurrected to address a series of questions relating to levels of organization within the animal kingdom. Concepts discussed/introduced:

eukaryotic cells
multicellularity
tissue formation
radial symmetry
bilateral symmetry
development of 3 germ (or dermal) layers
protostome embryonic development
psuedocoelem
coelem
deuterostome embryonic development
re-introduction of radial symmetry to the animal line

Homework was assigned and will be tested with a 20 point homework check when student walk into class tomorrow. The homework check will cover multicellularity through developmet of 3 germ layers.
